Bhopal, December 7: The exit poll predictions of Madhya Pradesh assembly elections 2018 might have left the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nervous ahead of the final results to be declared on December 11. Out of six major news channels/agencies that conducted exit polls of Madhya Pradesh elections on Friday, five gave the Congress an edge over the BJP. If exit poll predictions come true, the Congress will make a comeback in Madhya Pradesh after a gap of 15 years.
According to the exit poll by ABP News-CSDS, the Congress is likely to win 126 out of 230 assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh, well above the majority mark of 116 seats. The BJP may be reduced to 94, while 10 seats could go to other parties, predicted the ABP News exit poll results. Republic TV predicted a hung assembly, with Congress party leading over the BJP. Today's Chanakya gave a clear majority to the Congress. The agency said the Congress is likely to win 125 seats, whereas the BJP may go upto 103, with an error margin of +/-12 seats. India Today-Axis and News24 too gave Congress an upper hand over the BJP. While India Today predicted 104 to 122 seats for the Congress, News25 gave 11- to 120. The BJP is projected to win 102 to 120 and 98 to 108 by India Today and News24 respectively.
Interestingly, Times Now predicted a clear majority for the BJP in Madhya Pradesh. It gave 126 seats to the saffron and 89 to the Congress. In the 2013 assembly poll, of the total 230 seats, the BJP had won 165 seats, Congress 58, BSP four and independents three.

While the BJP contested all 230 seats, the Congress fielded candidates in 229 seats leaving one seat, Jatara in Tikamgarh district, for Sharad Yadav-led LJD. Mayawati's BSP contested in 227 seats and SP fielded candidates in 51 constituencies. In Madhya Pradesh, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP is eyeing for a fourth consecutive term, the Congress put all its might to end the BJP rule in the state.
