Bhopal, December 10: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Madhya Pradesh has directed that there will be no webcasting during the counting of votes on the counting day, i.e. December 11. According to a tweet by ANI, the CEO has also directed that Wifi services will not be used in the counting hall while the counting of votes is underway. Voting for 230 constituencies was held on November 28 to decide the fate of 2,899 candidates in the state. The polling was marred by complaints of faulty Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVVPAT) machines. According to a PTI report, EC officials said 1,145 EVMs and 1,545 VVPATs were replaced after complaints of technical snags.
Results are scheduled to be announced on December 11. On the polling day, the Election Commission said the turnout was 74.6 per cent. The highest voter turnout was recorded in Shajapur, 82%, and the lowest was in the tribal-dominated district of Alirajpur, 63%, reports said. In Madhya Pradesh, there are 5.04 crore eligible voters. Reports inform that 3,00,782 government employees, including 45,904 women, were on poll duty and 65,341 polling stations were set up. On Sunday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed confidence that BJP will retain power in the state. Chouhan accused the Congress of creating doubts in minds of people about the reliability of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
