Bhopal, October 15: Madhya Pradesh police have arrested former state-level hockey player for allegedly counterfeiting currency notes worth nearly Rs 3 crores. During investigations, the man told officials that he got an order from Bhopal for printing fake notes before the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections, the police said.
Aftab Ali alias Mushtaq Khan, a Bhopal resident, was arrested following the interrogation of five people who were arrested on October 9 from Hoshangabad and Rajgarh. All the accused named Aftab as the kingpin of the group and claimed that he was involved in printing and circulation of fake notes in Madhya Pradesh, reported Hindustan Times. During the initial inquiry, police found that Aftab was a Hockey player who represented Madhya Pradesh seven times and now runs a real estate business. All through, he didn't disclose the name of a person who placed the order but claimed that he used to take the commission for printing notes.
During the interrogation, Police found that the Bhopal based gang used to print Rs 2000 notes with the same serial number while every Rs 500 notes were printed with a unique serial number. Now, the police are trying to figure out the reason for printing notes and trying to burst a bigger racket.
