Bhopal, Sept 26: Officials in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar caught red-handed a PDS beneficiary taking foodgrains over the past year for his dog, "Raju". The fraud was unveiled after the authorities conducted the Aadhaar verification.
On Monday, 75-year-old Narsingh Bodar reached the ration shop as usual to avail the free foodgrain. As per the recent order issued by the administration, ration shop in-charge Kailash Maru asked him to submit Aadhaar card details of all beneficiaries of his family. While Bodar produced his and his wife's Aadhaar details, he ended up quipping that "Raju is a dog". Claiming that it was a slip tongue, Bodar attempted to retract his claim. However, Maru alerted district food officer Anand Gole, who conducted an inquiry to find that Raju is a indeed a dog, under whose name Bodar had procured over 60-kg of foodgrain in the last 12 months.
The probing officials are also scanning the role of panchayat officials, who included the name of Raju in Bodar's ration card.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court issued the much-awaited verdict on Aadhaar, upholding its constitutional validity.
The five-judge bench dismissed the petitioner's claim that the unique identification process is exclusionary, as the verdict allows the government to make Aadhaar mandatory for extending subsidies and other benefits to the masses.
