New Delhi, November 26: In a shocking case from National Capital, an auto-driver was allegedly lynched by a mob for stealing car batteries in West Delhi's Mohan Garden on Saturday. The incident took place near Pipal Chowk around 3:30 am to 7:30 am. In the incident, 26-year old auto driver, Avinash, succumbed to injuries while two men were hospitalised, reported Hindustan Times. Avinash was mercilessly thrashed and was later paraded. Meanwhile, in the middle of the assault, someone from the mob allegedly used Avinash's mobile phone to call his parents. The parents rushed to the spot to spare their son's life but to no avail. Avinash's mother told police that the mob used to sprinkle water on his son's face and then thrashed him again. Meantime, some of the local residents have even recorded the assault. A police officer told Hindustan Times that one local resident has been arrested. Also, a case has been registered of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, intimidation and wrongful restraint at Uttam Nagar police station.
However, a case of theft was also registered against Avinash as well as against two men, who are battling for their lives in hospital. Meanwhile, an anonymous police officer told HT that the trio were caught red-handed while stealing the car batteries.
