Ludhiana Rains: Heavy Rainfall Leads To Severe Waterlogging; 2 Feared Drowned, School Building Collapses

Ludhiana, July 17: Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Punjab's Ludhiana as locals faced a hard time commuting due to severe waterlogging in many areas. The management of several schools and offices asked employees and kids to not reports as several roads were submerged in water. Ludhiana witnessed heavy rains for three hours on Monday and two hours on Tuesday morning.

Amid heavy rains, two people were reportedly feared to have drowned in the overflowing Buddha Nullah in Hambran Road area. According to reports, the two, identified as Bhola (15 years of age) and Naresh (18 years of age) were rag pickers and had gone to collect plastic bottle near the water stream when they drowned in the Nullah.

In another incident, a Government Primary School, which had been roofless for decades, came crumbling down amid heavy rains. A few children had a narrow escape as the walls of the roofless school building in Ludhiana's Field Ganj collapsed. Earlier last week, a wall of a Municipal Corporation Building in Ludhiana had also collapsed amid heavy rains in the city.

According to reports, on Monday, Ludhiana received over 160 mm rainfall in just three hours. The city woke up to heavy rains on Tuesday, too, as waterlogging woes worsened. According to Skymet Weather forecast, Ludhiana, as well as other parts of Punjab including Jalandhar, Moga and Gurdaspur, will continue to witness light to moderate rains over the next 4 to 6 hours
