The duo had arrived in a grey-coloured Maruti Suzuki Swift car, which they had parked outside Verma Jewellers. Since the car had a fake number plate, we are unable to locate it, a police official privy to the case informed reporters.
Shyam Sunder Verma, the duped owner of the jewellery shop, said the accused paid him in Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes. However, when he scrutinised them in detail, he found that the 'Bhartiya Manoranjan Bank' and 'Entertainment Bank of India' was printed on either sides.
Incidents of fraudery are on a rise in Ludhiana, as the police has recently busted a racket of fake travel agents, who have duped over 69 city youths of lakhs of rupees. The victims were promised to be sent to Europe and provided a white-collar job.
