Ludhiana Buddha Nullah Cleaning: Punjab Government Approves Rs 650 Crore Project

The Punjab government on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 650 crore for rejuvenation of the polluted Buddha Nullah in Ludhiana district. The state government approved the project for the in a meeting presided over by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

Chandigarh, January 7: The Punjab government on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 650 crore for rejuvenation of the polluted Buddha Nullah in Ludhiana district. The state government approved the project in a meeting presided over by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Captain Singh urged the locals, NGO’s and social organisations to help the government in completing the project on time. According to a report, published in The Indian Express, the CM also lauded the contribution of the Namdhari sect head Satguru Thakur Uday Singh for the cleaning of the drain in coordination with the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana. A total of Rs 30 lakh was contributed by Satguru Thakur for buying the machinery. Cabinet Approves Shahpurkandi Dam Project on River Ravi in Punjab.

Additional Chief Secretary (Local Government) Sanjay Kumar told the media house that the first phase of the project includes augmentation and refurbishment of the sewage treatment facility and dairy effluent treatment, while the reuse of treated effluent beside the landscaping and beautification along the drain will be part of the second phase. As per Ajoy Sharma, Secretary, Local Government, a CETP having a capacity of 50 MLD would be installed at Tajpur Road, Jamalpur area in the next five months.

The total length of the nullah is 47 km out of which 14 km passes through Ludhiana. According to the report by the English daily, Ludhiana discharges 711 million litres of waste per day, which includes 610 MLD of domestic and 86 MLD of industrial discharge.
