Samad Anwar, whose father Mujeeb Anwar is a government employee, has been identified as a vandal by police and asked to pay for damages caused to public and private property in Lucknow. On the day when violence erupted, Samad was on his way to bury his grandfather when he was caught in a clash between police and protesters. He fell on the ground and police arrested him mistaking him as a protester, India Today reported. Samad, an asthma patient, was later taken to a hospital after his health condition deteriorated in police custody. Moreover, Samad's picture is on posters issued by the police in which he has been identified as a vandal who caused damage to public property. He has been asked to explain his position or pay for damages caused to public property. Samad's father Mujeeb said that his son remains sick most of the time due to asthma and never think of participating in agitation or indulging in violence. In Lucknow, as many as 46 people including a former IPS officer has recieved notices for allegedly indulging in violence during protests against the CAA. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had given instructions to compensate for the loss caused due to violence by the rioters. After this, the district administration identified the rioters, sent them notices and asked them to reply within a week.
If they cannot prove themselves innocent then they will have to pay a fixed amount as compensation to the government. Non-payment of the prescribed amount will attract legal action, including jail.
