Singh assured that the police would conduct a probe into the death of the youth. The CCTV footages would be examined to ascertain how he had sustained the fatal injuries.

In Lucknow, the maximum protests were reported in the minority-dominated Hazratganj locality, followed by Khadra and other parts of the old city. The violent elements among the protesters burnt a media OB van, set several vehicles ablaze and even pelted stones at security personnel.

Apart from Lucknow, the demonstrations also turned violent in Sambhal, where a roadways bus was torched down by the protesters. The agitation broke out despite the imposition of Section 144 of CrPC across Uttar Pradesh. The prohibitory orders barred the assembly of five or more persons at public places.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had warned of a stern crackdown against violent elements part of the anti-CAA protests. "They will be identified using the CCTV footages and their properties would be seized to compensate for the damages incurred by the state," he said.
