Mumbai, July 24: The Lower Parel bridge in Mumbai, also known as Delise-Parel railway over bridge (ROB) will be shut for public use and traffic movement from 8 am starting July 24. After an inspection on July 17, the Western Railway (WR) and IIT Bombay has advised to shut down the Road Over Bridge (ROB) near Lower Parel station and dismantle it immediately. The decision comes after IIT Mumbai and Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) inspected the overhead structures and decided to reconstruct it as early as possible to prevent any untoward incident.

According to an official release from the Western Railways, the bridge will be closed for all vehicular traffic and pedestrians on the basis of the inspection report submitted by Western Railway officials as well as a team of experts from IIT-Bombay and MCGM.

A senior WR official informed that after inspection on July 17, IIT Mumbai submitted a preliminary report to close this bridge immediately. This report was given to Western Railway and the BMC on July 20. According to the inspection report, the Delisle bridge was constructed in 1921 and the cross girders of the bridge are highly corroded and need to be replaced.
