Lok Sabha Passes National Medical Commission Bill 2019 To Replace Medical Council of India
The Lok Sabha on Monday passed the National Medical Commission Bill, 2019. The bill was introduced by Dr Harsh Vardhan, the Minister of Health and Family Welfare on July 22. The bill seeks to replace the Indian Medical Council (IMC) with a National Medical Commission (NMC).
New Delhi, July 29: The Lok Sabha on Monday passed the National Medical Commission Bill, 2019. The bill was introduced by Dr Harsh Vardhan, the Minister of Health and Family Welfare on July 22. The bill seeks to replace the Indian Medical Council (IMC) with a National Medical Commission (NMC) to look over the functioning of medical education and practices in the country.

There will be a uniform NEET (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) for admissions to undergraduates and post-graduate 'super-speciality' medical education in all medical institutions under the bill. The bill also proposes a single National Exit Test (NEXT) for granting a license to practice and admission to the postgraduate broad-speciality courses.
