The Election Commission held polling in 542 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats spread across all states and Union Territories in seven phases from April 19 to June 1. The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has already won one seat (Surat) unopposed. While most exit polls predicted a third consecutive term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP, the INDIA bloc parties are of the confident that they will win at least 295 seats. Lok Sabha Election Results 2019:

In 2019, the BJP had attained the majority on its own by winning 303 seats. The NDA had bagged 352 seats in total. The Congress' tally had witnessed meager improvement and settled at 52. Congress' ally DMK had emerged as the third largest party with 23 seats. In a bid to wrest power from the BJP, the Congress formed INDIA bloc, a bigger alliance of parties, and made state-specific seat-sharing deals with regional players. While the NDA heavily banked on PM Narendra Modi's popularity, the INDIA bloc raised the issue of unemployment and inflation, and alleged threat to the Constitution during its campaign.
