Lucknow, April 8: In light of the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 which is scheduled on April 11, all schools in Hapur district will remain closed for three days from April 9 to April 11. The Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh will be held in a seven phases from April 11 to May 19, covering 543 constituencies. Polling will be held on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12, May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23. The first phase polling will be held on 8 seats on 11 April, the second phase of UP for 8 seats will be held ob 18 April, third phase will be held for 10 seats on 23 April, phase 4 for 13 seats will be held on 29 April. the 5th phase will be held for 14 seats on 6 May. The polling for phase 6 for 14 seats will be held on 12 May while the Phase 7 in the state for 13 seats will be held on 19 May.
Along with the Lok Sabha polls, elections will also be held to the assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, and Odisha. On March 10, the Election Commission had announced the Lok Sabha election schedule following which the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect.
In Uttar Pradesh, Saharanpur, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddha Nagar constituencies will go to polls in the first phase on April 11. The state is witnessing triangular contest this time. The BJP-led NDA which had won 73 out of the state's 80 seats in 2014 is facing a tough challenge from the Congress and the SP-BSP-RLD alliance in the state.
