The Prime Minister emphasized the government's commitment to improving Mumbai's infrastructure, mentioning the coastal road and the Atal Setu bridge. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the Modi-led NDA government’s move to vest more powers in the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Jammu and Kashmir. Kharge alleged that the government aims to delay the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and keep the newly elected state government under the L-G’s control, even if statehood is restored.
The Union Home Ministry recently amended the rules under the Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, giving the Jammu and Kashmir L-G more authority over decisions related to police, officers of all-India services such as the IAS and IPS, and granting prosecution sanctions in various cases. This move follows the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh while abrogating Article 370.
