Mumbai, June 22: On Friday, June 21, the Supreme Court again declined to stay the counselling process in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) 2024 and issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA). The vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti also tagged the fresh pleas along with pending petitions and posted them for hearing on July 8. The Health Ministry said that 143 people died amid a scorching heatwave across the country, while 41,789 people suffered suspected heatstroke between March 1 and June 20.

Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi and expressed "grave concern" over the implementation of three new criminal laws. In her letter, Banerjee asked PM Modi to consider deferment of the implementation date of the three criminal laws. The three new criminal laws - the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023; and the Bharatiya Sakshaya Adhiniyam, 2023 will come into effect on July 1.

The joint CSIR-UGC-NET exam was scheduled to take place between June 25 to June 27. The agency NTA said that the exam is being postponed due to unavoidable circumstances and logistic issues. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has begun preparations for forthcoming State Assembly Elections in the States of Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand with the updation of the electoral rolls in these states w.r.t.
