BJP State President K. Annamalai visited the families of the deceased of Tamil Nadu hooch tragedy and enquired about the well-being of persons undergoing treatment. The state BJP has announced a relief fund of Rs 1 lakh each to families of the deceased. In a letter to the union home ministry, the state BJP has urged a CBI probe in the matter. In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Annamalai said, “In the past two years, Tamil Nadu has lost over 60 lives to hooch because of the ineffective governance of the DMK government.”

As the death toll in the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy rises to 34, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakhs for each bereaved family and Rs 50,000 for those under treatment. A one-man commission, led by former judge Justice B Gokuldas, has been appointed to probe the incident, with reports due within three months.

In Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi district, at least 29 fatalities have been reported due to suspected consumption of illicit liquor. Several others have been hospitalised following the incident.

New Delhi, June 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will celebrate this year's International Day of Yoga on June 21 in Srinagar, participating in a yoga session and addressing the gathering.
