Responding to news reports of tweaks in the newly revised National Curriculum for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbook, its director Dinesh Prasad Saklani said there were âno attempts to saffronise the curriculumâ and all changes were based on âevidences and factsâ. âWhy should we teach students about riots?â. The purpose of the textbook was not to âcreate violent, depressed citizensâ, he said. Saklani added that the history was taught in schools to give out facts, and not to make it a âbattlegroundâ.

At least nine people, including children, were injured when a gunman randomly opened fire at a splash pad in Rochester Hills, Michigan, yesterday evening, June 15.
