Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has sanctioned the prosecution of author Arundhati Roy and former Central University of Kashmir professor Dr. Sheikh Showkat Hussain under Section 45(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The charges stem from their alleged 'provocative' speeches at the 2010 conference 'Azadi-the Only Way.' As per reports, while delivering the speech at the event, Roy, strongly propagated that Kashmir was never a part of the Union of India and was forcibly occupied by Armed Forces. Soon after the event, an FIR was registered against the writer and other speakers for delivering provocative speeches at the conference.

An IAF aircraft has transported the bodies of 14 out of 45 Indian nationals who died in a catastrophic fire in Kuwait. The aircraft landed in Delhi. Thirty-one bodies were received in Kochi by government officials, including Kerala's Chief Minister.

The Japanese government today, June 14, said that a deep-sea search will begin next month for the two Maritime Self-Defence Force (MSDF) helicopters that crashed into the Pacific in April. The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology, or JAMSTEC, will begin the search using an unmanned deep-sea vehicle that can reach a depth of up to 6,000 metres, reports Xinhua news agency, citing the science ministry.

Officials had said that 49 people were killed in the fire in the Al-Mangaf building on June 12 and majority of them were Indians.

Union Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh, who had rushed to Kuwait, is also returning in the same aircraft.
