The Central Government has appointed Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, presently serving as Vice Chief of the Army Staff, as the next Chief of the Army Staff. Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi will be the next Chief of Army Staff with effect from the afternoon of June 30. The present Chief of the Army Staff, Gen Manoj C Pande, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, will demit office on June 30.

Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar assumed charge of the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry today, June 10. Malawi’s vice president and nine others were killed in a plane crash, the country’s president said today, June 11. The wreckage of the military plane carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima was located in a mountainous area in the north of the country after a search that lasted more than a day. New Delhi, June 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has allocated portfolios to his Cabinet colleagues who took oath on Sunday, emphasising continuity in key ministries. Amit Shah retains the Home Ministry, Rajnath Singh the Defence Ministry, Nirmala Sitharaman the Finance Ministry, S Jaishankar the External Affairs Ministry, and Nitin Gadkari the Road and Highways Ministry. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been assigned Agriculture and Panchayati Raj, while TDP’s Ram Mohan Naidu replaces Jyotiraditya Scindia as Aviation Minister. BJP National President JP Nadda is the new Health Minister.

The Modi 3.0 government took shape on Sunday evening with Narendra Modi taking oath as Prime Minister alongside 30 Cabinet Ministers, 5 Ministers of State with Independent Charge, and 36 Ministers of State (MoS). The new Council of Ministers is 72-strong, including 11 ministers from NDA partners such as TDP, JD(U), LJP, and Shiv Sena. In related political developments, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is set to elect N Chandrababu Naidu as their leader in a legislature meeting on June 11. Party spokesperson Jyotshna Tirunagari announced that the meeting would take place on Tuesday morning, following which NDA leaders, including TDP, BJP, and Janasena, will meet Governor S Abdul Nazeer to stake their claim to form the government. An invitation from the Governor to form the government is expected by Tuesday evening, with Naidu scheduled to take oath as Chief Minister at 11:27 am on Wednesday at Kesarapalli IT Party near Gannavaram Airport. Additional leaders to be sworn in alongside Naidu will be finalized on Tuesday night.

The NDA secured a landslide victory in the recently concluded simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, paving the way for these new appointments and the formation of the state government.
