Meanwhile, Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah has requested Devendra Fadnavis to continue as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister despite his recent resignation due to the party’s poor performance in the state during the elections. Fadnavis met Shah on Thursday to discuss the BJP-led NDA’s performance in Maharashtra and was advised to resume his duties until further discussions post Modi’s oath-taking ceremony.
The Mahayuti, as the NDA is known in Maharashtra, faced significant electoral setbacks, with the BJP securing only nine Lok Sabha seats, down from 22 in 2019. The Shinde-led Shiv Sena won seven seats, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP won only one. In the 2019 elections, the BJP-Shiv Sena coalition had won 41 out of 48 seats in the state.
