The Supreme Court today (October 3) laid down crucial guidelines for the prevention of caste-based discrimination division of labour in Prisons. The Court struck down the provisions of the Prison Manuals of several States as per which jobs were assigned to prisons on the basis of their castes. The Court held that assigning cleaning and sweeping to the marginalised castes and assigning cooking to higher-caste prisoners is nothing but a direct caste discrimination and a violation of Article 15.

Mumbai, October 3: On Wednesday, October 2, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and commended the government's efforts on the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
