At least 44 people have died and millions left without power on Friday as Hurricane Helene roared through the south-eastern US. Officials continued daring rescues with boats, helicopters and large vehicles to help those stranded in floodwaters - including about 50 workers and patients who crowded on the roof of a flooded Tennessee hospital. It was the most powerful storm on record to hit Florida's Big Bend and moved north into Georgia and the Carolinas after making landfall overnight on Thursday.


Mumbai, September 28: In the latest development in the Tirupati laddu controversy, the Andhra Pradesh government appointed a nine-member special investigation team (SIT) on Friday, September 27, to probe the alleged adulteration of Tirupati laddus (consecrated sweet) with animal fats. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu alleged that the erstwhile YSRCP government did not even spare Sri Venkateswara temple and used substandard ingredients and animal fats for making laddus. Meanwhile, the Karnataka Lokayukta Police on Friday filed an FIR against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case.

Sources said that CM Siddaramaiah was named accused number one, his wife Parvathy as the second accused, and his brother-in-law Mallikarjun Swamy as the third accused in the FIR. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday won the last vacant seat of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's 18-member Standing Committee. The saffron party won the seat unopposed as the councillors of the ruling AAP and Congress boycotted the election.
