Acting Enforcement Directorate (ED) chief Rahul Navin was on Wednesday appointed as the full-time director of the federal anti-money laundering agency. An order issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) said the appointment of Navin, a 1993-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the Income Tax cadre, has been made "for a period of two years from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier".

The Supreme Court will hear a plea today, August 14, filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking release from jail in connection with the Delhi excise policy case, in which he is under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). A bench of justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan will take up Kejriwal's two petitions, which have separately challenged the August 5 decision of the Delhi High Court affirming his arrest and denying him bail.

The Rajasthan High Court has granted rape convict Asaram Bapu seven-day parole for medical treatment. The 85-year-old godman, who is serving a life sentence in Jodhpur Central Jail, will go to Maharashtra for treatment under police custody. Asaram Bapu was convicted by a POCSO court in Jodhpur and sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a teen girl in his ashram.
The interim government of Bangladesh on Tuesday cancelled a national holiday on August 15 that marks the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, former PM and the father of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina. The decision was approved on Tuesday at the interim government's advisory council meeting at Jamuna government guest house in Dhaka.
