The gross direct tax collections by the government so far in 2024-15 were 24 per cent higher on a yearly basis at Rs 8.13 lakh crore, data released by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) showed on Monday. During the same period last year, the gross tax collections were Rs 6.55 lakh crore.

Former Pakistan intelligence chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been placed in military custody following a Supreme Court order and a detailed inquiry by the Pakistan Army. The investigation, conducted under the provisions of the Pakistan Army Act, addresses complaints related to the Top City Case. As per media reports, disciplinary actions, including a court-martial, have been initiated against Hameed, as confirmed by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has launched the 'Har Ghar Har Grahani Yojana' portal, aiming to provide gas cylinders to approximately 50 lakh BPL families for INR 500 each. The state government will subsidise any amount exceeding INR 500 per cylinder through direct benefit transfers (DBT) at an annual cost of INR 1500 crore.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja has set August 27 as the new deadline for securing these approvals. This extension follows the judge's earlier decision to prolong Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody until August 20, after his recent video conference appearance on August 8.

The Delhi Traffic Police issued a detailed advisory for the full dress rehearsal for the Independence Day function in the national capital on Tuesday, August 12.
