Mumbai, August 1: Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday moved a Privilege Motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for tweeting the expunged portions of BJP MP Anurag Thakur's caste remarks against Rahul Gandhi in Parliament. In his complaint to the Lok Sabha secretary general, Channi said the BJP MP made "many objectionable remarks" in the Lok Sabha. Some of the remarks were later expunged from the records by Congress MP Jagdambika Pal, who was in the Chair during the proceedings.

At least 167 people have been killed, and over 200 were injured after massive landslides struck the hilly areas near Meppadi in Wayanad. According to government data, more than 180 people are feared to be trapped under debris as multiple agencies and the Army race against time to save as many lives as possible.

Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi informed that all schools - government and private - will remain closed in the city on Thursday, August 1, in view of the heavy rains which led to severe waterlogging on Wednesday. "In light of very heavy rainfall today evening and forecast of heavy rainfall tomorrow, all schools - government and private - will remain closed tomorrow," Atishi said in a post on microblogging platform X late night on Wednesday.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Wednesday the United States was not involved in the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, and reiterated the importance of a ceasefire in Gaza. "This is something we were not aware of or involved in. It's very hard to speculate," Blinken said in an interview with Channel News Asia during a visit to Singapore. Iran's Revolutionary Guards confirmed Haniyeh's death, hours after he attended a swearing-in ceremony for the country's new president.
