The Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday passed the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion (Amendment) Bill, 2024 that provides for a maximum punishment of life imprisonment, making the law stricter in cases of fraudulent or forced conversion. Earlier the maximum punishment provided for those found guilty of marrying a woman by deceiving her and converting her religion was 10 years with a fine of Rs 50,000.
At least 123 people have been killed and over a hundred others have been injured after massive landslides hit Kerala's Wayanad district on Tuesday morning amid heavy rain. Meanwhile, NDRF and Army teams are conducting rescue operations at the sites. At least 2 people died, while six others were injured after 18 coaches of the Mumbai-Howrah Mail derailed in Jharkhand on Tuesday. The incident took place at around 3.45 am in Bara Bambu village near Chakradharpur. Ambulances and rescue teams rushed to the site soon after the derailment was notified.
