The Election Commission of India (ECI) on March 10 announced dates for 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Voting for the national polls will be held in seven phases from April 11 to May 19. The counting of votes will be held on May 23. With the announcement of election dates, the Model of Conduct has come into place with immediate effect. Voting for the Lok Sabha Polls will take place on both Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) as well as VVPAT machines at all polling booths.
Meanwhile, the ECI also announced the dates of assembly elections in four states - Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. the voting in these states will be held simultaneously with the parliamentary polls.
In a tragic incident, An Ethiopian Airlines flight crashed shortly after takeoff from Ethiopia's capital on Sunday morning, killing all 157 on board, including Indians. Four Indians also lost their lives in the tragic incident which is one of the worst aviation tragedies in recent years.
