Karnataka Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar on Thursday disqualified three MLAs including two rebel legislators of the Congress till the end of the term of the house in 2023. The three MLAs suspended by Kumar are - Independent MLA R Shankar from Ranebennur constituency and Congress’ Ramesh Jarkiholi from Gokak constituency in Belagavi and Mahesh Kumathalli from Athani constituency in Belgaum.

The Monsoon session of the Parliament has been extended till August 7. A Bill to ban the practice of triple talaq was passed by the Lok Sabha amid a huge uproar. The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 was passed after 303 members voted in the favour of the bill, while 82 MPs voted against it.

The Right to Information Act (RTI) 2019 was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday and has now been sent to President Ram Nath Kovind for his approval. The Bill had already been passed in the Lok Sabha. There were intense discussions in the Rajya Sabha before the passing of the controversial Right to Information Act (RTI) 2019.
