Due to this, many pilgrims bound for Sabarimala Temple called off their pilgrimage saying that sanctity of the temple has been breached. The right wing-outfits have called the two women who entered the Sabarimala shrine on Wednesday as “anti-social and feminist activists”. The state government has beefed up the security in the Sabarimala temple premises, fearing a repeat of violent protests.
In another development, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has put on hold further payment of a monthly pension for those detained during the Emergency under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) and Defence of India Rules (DIR). The opposition has called this move a political vendetta.
