Mumbai, January 3: A day after two women entered the Sabarimala temple in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, United Democratic Front to observe 'black day' in the state on Thursday. Also, Sabarimala Karma Samithi is holding a 12-hour long hartal today. Due to this, many pilgrims bound for Sabarimala Temple called off their pilgrimage saying that sanctity of the temple has been breached. The right wing-outfits have called the two women who entered the Sabarimala shrine on Wednesday as “anti-social and feminist activists”. The state government has beefed up the security in the Sabarimala temple premises, fearing a repeat of violent protests.

In another development, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has put on hold further payment of a monthly pension for those detained during the Emergency under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) and Defence of India Rules (DIR). The opposition has called this move a political vendetta. Under the Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan Samman Nidhi Niyam - launched by former BJP government, nearly 2,000 people jailed during the Emergency get a monthly pension of Rs 25,000.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that the library built in Afghanistan by India's fund was of no use.
