New Delhi, January 22: The Supreme Court on Wednesday would hear the 144 petitions against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act. A bench -- headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bodbe -- would hear the would hear the petitions, most of which demand that the law be withdrawn. Among the major petitioners includes several political parties like Congress, the DMK, CPI, CPM, IUML, AIMIM and MKM.

In another news, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal had challenged Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a open debate on Citizenship Amendment Act. He said, "I openly challenge the Home Ministry and the PM to debate me on the issue being faced by the country. Let them be on one side and me on the other, let them choose the time and place." Citizenship Amendment Act Won't Be Withdrawn, No Matter Who Protests, Says Amit Shah in Lucknow.

The national capital on Wednesday rose with a thick cover of dense fog. Also, the temperature dipped to seven degree Celsius. Due to the dense fog, the 22 trains of the Northern Railways region are running late. It is expected that the dense fog will clear by 11 am today.
