Justice AK Sikri, the second-most senior judge of the Supreme Court, has turned down a post-retirement posting offered to him by the government nearly a month ago. Reports on Sunday claimed that he has written to the Law Ministry, formally conveying his decision of turning down the part-time assignment. The Centre, in the last month, had approached Justice Sikri to serve as a member of the Commonwealth Secretariat Arbitral Tribunal (CSAT) after he retires on March 6, 2019.

The annual report of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), tabled earlier this month, stated that the agency has been asked by the government to develop roadways in frontier parts to ensure quick mobilisation of troops. The government has asked for the construction of 44 "strategically important" roads along the Line of Actual Control with China, the CPWD documents showed.

At least 10 sailors, including 8 Indian nationals, have been stranded on a vessel off the coast in UAE for the last 33 months. Their passports and seamen books have been confiscated by the authorities at Sharjah anchorage, whereas, the ship has been abandoned by the Abu Dhabi-based firm which owns it -- as it has run into losses.
