The debate over Rafale deal rocked Parliament on Tuesday after reports surfaced that Anil Ambani met French defence officials just a few days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to France to announce the deal. After the Modi government rejected Congress MPs demand of setting up a Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe alleged irregularities in the deal, they staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha.

India on Tuesday signed the much-awaited contract for the purchase of 72,400 new assault rifles for the armed forces, government sources said. US firm Sig Sauer will supply these 7.62x51 mm guns which are urgently required to replace the INSAS 5.56x45 mm rifles, the mainstay of Indian infantry troops.

The Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government presented its annual Budget in the state Assembly on Tuesday allocating the maximum amount for the education sector. Along with this, the state government mentioned that no new taxes have been imposed for its citizens. Presenting the Budget, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said that Rs 34,798.69 crore has been allocated for the education sector, which is the highest ever in state’s history.
