New Delhi, December 27: Lok Sabha is likely to discuss the politically sensitive bill which seeks to make the practice of instant triple talaq among Muslim men an offence today. The lower house of Parliament had last week on Thursday decided to take up the bill on December 27 after the Congress agreed to participate in the debate. The ruling BJP has issued a whip to its MPs, asking them to ensure their presence in the House today.
Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh allocated portfolios to the council of ministers late on Wednesday night with the advice of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot who has kept nine departments including the key finance and home with him. Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot was allocated the portfolios of Public works, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Science and Technology and statistics.
The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a probe against personal secretaries of three senior ministers after a sting operation conducted by a TV channel showed them seeking bribes against favours like transfers, winging contracts in their favour, an official told IANS on Thursday. Additional Chief Secretary (Secretariat Administration) Mahesh Gupta has ordered the probe and in all likelihood they would be suspended anytime now.
Three people including a woman were arrested in Maharashtra for allegedly cutting off a man's genitals. The man had allegedly harassed the woman and made unwanted advances towards the woman.
