Death toll rises to 43, with some 600 injured, in Indonesia tsunami apparently spawned by undersea landslides from a volcanic eruption on Sunday. Dozens of buildings were destroyed by the wave, which hit beaches in South Sumatra and the western tip of Java.


The temple complex of Sabarimala remains tense as it is likely to witness another round of intense protests from conservative groups on Sunday. A 50-member all-women group, all aged under 50, is firm on visiting the hilltop Lord Ayyappa shrine. Right-wing groups are expected to mobilise their cadres at the Nilackal base camp in a bid to stall their entry.

At least five were children were killed after a bus ferrying 50 students fall into a deep gorge on Mahal-Bardipada route in Dang district. Dozens of others have been left injured in the accident. The victims were rushed to the nearest civic hospital, where they are being treated.

A couple based in West Sussex's Crawley were arrested by UK police in connection to the drone chaos at London's Gatwick airport ahead of Christmas. The accused have been identified as 47-year-old Paul Gait and his 54-year-old wife Elaine Kirk. They have been sent to police custody for interrogation.
