New Delhi, December 19: Polling for the eighth and final phase of District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir is underway. Voting is being held for 285 panch and 84 sarpanch seats. A total of 168 candidates are in the fray. As many as 13 constituencies in Kashmir division and 15 in Jammu division will witness polling. The United States Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) has authorised Moderna's coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine for emergency use for people aged 18 years and above. The US government has ordered at least 200 million doses of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine. This is the second vaccine after Pfizer's vaccine to get emergency use authorisation by the USFDA.

"Moderna, Inc., (Nasdaq: MRNA) a biotechnology company pioneering messenger RNA (mRNA) therapeutics and vaccines today announced that the US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) has authorized the emergency use of mRNA-1273, Moderna's vaccine against Covid-19 in individuals 18 years of age or older," the company said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has arrived in West Bengal for a two-day visit. Amit Shah will start his trip with a visit to Ramakrishna Mission Ashram today. His visit comes at a time when several MLAs from the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) have resigned from the state assembly and are likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the assembly polls due next year.
