Union Home Minister Amit Shah made the historic judgement to revoke Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and to bifurcate it into two Union Territories- namely Kashmir and Kashmir and Ladakh. According to the Monday's developments, the Union government got an order signed by President Ram Nath Kovind that came into force 'at once' for Jammu and Kashmir. The new provisions mention that recent Presidential order is subject to ratification by parliament, under which Article 35A - which was part of the presidential order of 1954 - goes away.
Following the historic judgement, there has been cheer in all parts of the country. While Mehbooba Mufti termed it as the darkest day in democracy, BJP leaders congratulated Narendra Modi on the courageous step taken by the government.
The Indian rupee on Monday weakened most against the US dollar since September 2013. The rupee ended 1.6 percent lower at 70.73 a dollar, its steepest fall since 3 September 2013.
