New Delhi, August 25: Thousands of devotees thronged to various temples across the country on Saturday and Sunday to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. On Saturday, devotees fasted throughout the day while prayers were offered all night and religious hymns were sung in the temples as part of the festivities. One of the main highlights of the fun-filled festival was the 'dahi handi' events. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Lord Krishna was born at the midnight and is the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to visit the Shreenathji Temple here today before departing to attend the G7 summit in Biarritz. The transaction was made at what appears to be an Indian sweets shop.
Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who passed away at AIIMS in Delhi on Saturday, will be cremated at the Nigam Bodh Ghat on Sunday. Jaitley's mortal remains were brought to his residence in Kailash Colony, South Delhi on Saturday evening. Delhi Police barricaded the area around the residence and the security is expected to be beefed up further in view of the expected increase in VVIP and VIP movement.
On Saturday night, several explosions were heard over the skies in Damascus. Local media reported that Syrian air defences were repelling 'enemy targets' over the capital city, Sputnik reported while quoting SANA Agency.
