In a tragic incident, a series of eight blasts rocked Sri Lanka on Sunday killing over 200 people and injuring more than 400. The first explosion was reported from St. Anthony's Church in Kochchikade at around 8.45 am on Sunday morning when people gathered in the church to offer mass on the occasion of Easter Sunday. Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe held an emergency meeting with other ministers and military officials. Minister of Economic Reforms Harsha De Silva said that all measures have been taken to maintain peace.

At least seven devotees were killed in a stampede during a local temple festival at Karuppasamy temple in Muthayampalayam village near Thuraiyur in Trichy. Ten others were also injured in the incident. All the injured were admitted to the government hospital in Thuraiyur. According to reports, the tragedy occurred when hundreds of people gathered for the 'padikasu' (temple coin) distribution ceremony.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur on Sunday replied to Election Commission’s (EC) show cause notice over her controversial remarks on former Anti-Terrorist Squad Chief late Hemant Karkare. In her reply, Sadhvi said that she did not make any defamatory comments for any martyr.
