New Delhi, April 18: The voting for the second phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 for 95 seats across 12 states/union territories with minor glitches in the VVPAT machines in Silchar constituency in Assam and Raiganj constituency in West Bengal. From politicians like Congress leader P Chidambaram, Sushilkumar Shinde and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to actors like Rajinikanth, Kamal Hasan and Shruti Hasan exercised their democratic rights in the polling booth. The polling would continue till 6 pm in most of the constituencies, while in some Naxal infested constituencies the voting will be concluded by 4 pm.
In other news, after the debt-ridden premium airline carrier -Jet Airways - announced a temporary suspension of its flights due to lack of funds on Wednesday, around 16,500 jobs also became temporary. It is to be known that consortium of lenders refused to consider extending emergency funding of Rs 983 crore to keep the airline flying. Banks led by State Bank of India (SBI) have informed the Jet Airways that they were unable to consider its request for critical interim funding. In another news, the Election Commission suspended its poll observer in Odisha's Sambalpur who inspected Prime Minister Narendra Modi's helicopter. According to reports, officials privy to the matter claimed that the observer violated the laid norms which prohibit inspecting SPG protectees. The checking was done by Karnataka-cadre IAS Mohammed Mohsin who attempted to check the convoy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had arrived in Sambalpur on Tuesday to address a rally organised by the BJP state unit.
