Mumbai, October 2: With petrol and diesel prices reaching extreme highs in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra, the Devendra Fadnavis government in the state is under pressure to bring down the prices. According to fresh reports, a decision in this regard may be taken but at the cost hike in another commodity. A bureaucrat quoted by TOI has said that the government may hike excise duty on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) by 10 per cent and cut down the prices of petrol and diesel by Re 1 per litre each. Fuel prices have been on the rise for over one month now. In Mumbai, the price of petrol has gone beyond Rs 91 per litre while diesel price is nearing Rs 80 per litre. On Tuesday, October 2, petrol price in Mumbai was Rs 91.20 per litre while diesel was being sold at Rs 79.89 per litre. Meanwhile, experts have said that the price of petrol is likely to cross Rs 100 mark in Maharashtra by this Diwali, touching all-time highest fuel rates in the country. Looking at the current scenario of the rising fuel prices, the oil companies have started upgrading their fuel dispensers to ensure that they display correct prices when rates reach Rs 100 per litre.
