Mumbai, September 29: A 16-year-old died at Juhu Chowpatty in Mumbai while Ganpati immersions were ongoing at the beach on Thursday. The teenager was identified as Hasan Yusuf Shaikh. According to the Mumbai fire brigade, Shaikh was traced near the sea at around 4.15 pm on Thursday and was immediately rushed to civic-run Cooper Hospital by an ambulance at the site.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that Shaikh went to Juhu beach alone on Thursday afternoon to watch the Ganpati immersion on the final day of Ganesh Chaturthi. Assistant Commissioner of Police Mahesh Mugutrao was quoted as saying by the Indian Express “Prima facie it appears that he had come alone to see the Ganesh idol immersion at the chowpatty. There was no Ganpati with him, nor was he accompanying any pandal. Police said it was raining heavily when the 16-year-old was at the beach.

His body was found near the sea and was rushed immediately to Cooper Hospital by ambulance. He was declared brought dead at the civic-run hospital.
