Shamli, June 21: A lesbian couple in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli has approached the police seeking protection. The two women, both are in their 20s, alleged threats from their family members and said they are "shamed" in society. They said their families are "hell-bent" against their "relationship". Both women work in a factory in Ghaziabad. They have also filed a complaint against their family members.

"We are adults and independent. We have jobs and we want to live together out of our own will. But, our families are against it and we fear for lives," the women wrote in a complaint to Superintendent of Police of Shamli, Ajay Kumar. They hail from separate villages in Kandhla area of Shamli district. They reportedly met each other during school days and later moved to Ghaziabad for work. Gay Couple Hosts Reception in Mumbai.

They now work at a private firm and share a room. They alleged their families are "threatening them of dire consequences if they didn’t part ways". "The women have sought police protection citing threat from their families. I have instructed station officer at Mahila Thana to look into the case and take appropriate action," the ASP was quoted by TOI as saying.
