Gondia, December 17: A carcass of a leopard was found in Maharashtra with its paws cut off in the Gothangaon forest area in Gondia district of Maharashtra. The post-mortem report revealed that the leopard was killed, it had two bullet wounds. The people behind this gruesome death of the animal are yet to be identified. The news comes just few days after it was reported that a meditating Buddhist monk was killed by a leopard in the forest areas of Chandrapur.
The count of deaths due to leopard is on the rise and the highest deaths were reported from the state of Uttarakhand. In Maharashtra, almost 90 people lost their lives in leopard attacks this year. The man-animal conflict is only on the rise and such incidents are too on a rise. The number of leopard deaths in the country has been at a record high compared to last 4 years. Environmentalists, conservationists and animal lovers too have been in conflict with the developmental projects that have thinned the borders between man and nature. A few months ago, the killing of Avni the tigress also met with a lot of controversy over the ways used to kill her. A lot of rules were violated in the process. An enquiry was ordered into the case along with the resignation of forest minister Sudhir Mungantiwar. A separate committee was formed to look into the alleged killing of the mother tigress.
