The incident occurred near a garden in Chorpani's Sati Colony, where the family of Pradeep Kumar, a labourer, resides. The brave boy was identified as Dev Kumar, who fought off a leopard to save his brother, Manish.
According to a report published by Amar Ujala, at around 9:30 PM, while Pradeep and his wife were cutting grass in the garden, their sons Dev and Manish were at home. Manish (8) went outside to switch on the light when a leopard attacked their pet dog tied under the cot. Hearing the commotion, Manish tried to rescue the dog but was attacked by the leopard, which dug its claws into his leg. Boy Saves Brother From Leopard Attack in Uttarakhand
Dev, hearing his brother's screams, rushed outside. Initially stunned by the scene, he quickly grabbed a stick and repeatedly struck the leopard on the head, shouting, "Leave my brother!" The leopard eventually retreated into the forest, leaving Manish injured.
Manish sustained deep wounds on his hands and feet and was taken to the government hospital in Ramnagar, where he received four stitches on his leg. He was later discharged. In another incident that occurred in July, a nine-year-old girl was mauled to death by a leopard while playing in the courtyard in Uttarakhand's Tehri district. The half-eaten body of the child was recovered from a nearby bush, about 30 meters away from her home. According to sources, Poonam, the nine-year-old daughter of Rukam Singh, a resident of Bhoud village in Hindaw Patti, was attacked by a leopard while playing alone in the courtyard of her home.
