Kanpur, October 30: Panic engulfed Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh after a leopard attacked three women at their home on October 30. In a shocking incident early Wednesday morning, a leopard entered a house in the Salkot village and attacked three women. The incident occurred around 5:00 am.
According to a report published by Amarujala, the injured women, identified as Padma Devi (50), Kastura Devi (40), and Meena Devi (30), were immediately rushed to the district hospital in Pithoragarh for treatment. According to local sources, the leopard fled towards the forest after villagers raised an alarm upon hearing the women’s cries for help. The report added that the BJP state executive member Birendra Bohra visited the district hospital to check on the condition of the injured women and demanded compensation from the District Forest Officer (DFO). Following the attack, a team from the forest department arrived in the village to assess the situation and address the villagers’ concerns.
Schools Closed in Tehri Amid Leopard Scare
In other news, schools in the Bhilangana block of Uttarakhand's Tehri district will remain closed indefinitely due to escalating fears of leopard attacks. Initially shut for three days, the closure has been extended after a series of fatal leopard attacks claimed the lives of four students in the past four months, the latest being a 13-year-old girl earlier this week. District officials have confirmed the closure of primary schools in the villages of Bhodgaon, Puwalgaon, Mahargaon, and Anthwalgaon due to the ongoing leopard threat. Exams have been postponed until further notice. Tehri’s Chief Education Officer, S.P. Semwal, stated that the schools will remain closed until the leopard is captured and the threat is neutralised. In contrast, the government high school has resumed classes with heightened security measures. Forest department personnel have been deployed to ensure the safety of students.
