Leh Airport New Terminal Building to Cost Rs 480 Crore, to Be Completed by September 2021, Says AAI Chairman
Guruprasad Mohapatra, Chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Sunday informed that the construction of the new terminal building is expected to be completed by September 2021.
Leh, February 3: The new terminal building of Kushok Bakula Rimpochee (KBR) Airport in Leh will be constructed at a cost of Rs 480 crore, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has said. Guruprasad Mohapatra, Chairman of Airports AAI on Sunday informed that the construction of the new terminal building is expected to be completed by September 2021. Mohapatra added saying that the new terminal will incorporate all modern features. He said it will be state of the art in every sense, reflecting the culture and traditions of Ladakh-Leh. "The new terminal will give Ladakh and Leh direct connectivity to a number of cities across the country. It will also pave the way for further development in the state," Mohapatra was quoted by ANI.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier on Sunday laid the foundation stone of the new terminal building in Leh by unveiling a plaque. The new terminal will provide seamless passenger movement with all modern amenities. In addition, the Protected Area Permit’s validity has been increased to 15 days. Now tourists will be able to enjoy their journey to Leh for a longer time. Narendra Modi Inaugurates Development Projects in Leh.
The Prime Minister, who is on a one day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, inaugurated several development projects in the state. On his visit there, he opened five new tourist and trekking routes in Ladakh and also toured the famous Dal Lake in Srinagar. The Prime Minister also inaugurated the University of Ladakh and said that young students constitute 40% of the population of Ladakh and there has been a long-standing demand for a University in this region.
"With the launch of the University of Ladakh, this demand would be fulfilled.” This University will be a cluster University comprising of degree colleges of Leh, Kargil, Nubra, Zanskar, Drass and Khaltsi and will have administrative offices at Leh and Kargil for the ease of students", Modi said.
