Mumbai, August 30: In an unusual series of events, a man in Lebanon got an unusual bacterial infection in his penis after having 'vigorous sex' with his wife. A few hours after being intimate, the man began suffering from severe diarrhoea and vomiting. Later, he experienced penile swelling and redness, which persisted for a week before he sought medical help.

Doctors at the American University of Beirut Medical Center examined his scabbed penis, took a swab, and attributed the infection to Bacillus cereus, a bacterium typically found in soil, vegetation, and contaminated foods such as reheated rice and vegetables. 24-Hour Sex Lands German Tourist in Italy Hospital, Sexual Intercourse Under Drugs Influence Leads to Penis Amputation Possibility.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, around 63,400 cases of Bacillus cereus illness are reported annually in the US. The condition, known as "fried rice syndrome," occurs when rice left at room temperature produces toxins that lead to diarrhoea and vomiting. Reheating the rice doesn't eliminate these toxins. Penis Rings Lead to 'Rare Case of Penile Strangulation'! Symptoms usually appear within six to 15 hours, with most people recovering in a day, but this case was unique. The case report noted it as the first instance of such an unusual penile infection caused by Bacillus cereus. The man, a father of two, ate rice with his family the day before symptoms began. His wife remained symptom-free. The patient denied any penile injury or bite during intercourse. Doctors believe the infection was likely caused by his vomit or diarrhoea contaminating his penis after sex.
