New Delhi, August 25: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief and Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav was on Saturday discharged from Mumbai's Asian Heart Institute. Lalu arrived in Mumbai on August 6 for treatment for over a dozen ailments including hypertension, diabetes, and heart and kidney troubles. "A team of five doctors- a general surgeon, physician, nephrologist, diabetologist and cardiologist- has been put together to examine and treat him as required," the hospital said in a statement.
Lalu, who turned 70 this year, is presently serving sentence in three fodder scam related cases and was behind the bars since December 23, 2017. The RJD chief was subsequently convicted and sentenced to jail in two more fodder scam cases.
On Friday, the Jharkhand High Court rejected his request for 3 months bail extension on medical grounds and had asked him to surrender before the CBI Court by August 30. Hearing his extension plea, Justice Apresh Kumar Singh directed the state government to provide medical care whenever needed.
The Jharkhand High Court had on August 10 extended his provisional bail till August 20 on medical grounds and again on August 17 extended it till August 27. The Court had on May 11 granted six weeks provisional bail to Prasad on medical grounds and again extended it till August 14 for his treatment at specialised institutes.
